Ok, I’m only about a third of the way into the first book. I really enjoyed Ashley Rostek’s WitSec books (I’m dying for the third one to come out), and this was recommended based of that… I can see why it’s recommended… BUT…
I don’t dislike it. The concept is interesting. We have 7 dudes, each representing a deadly sin, and they’re going to rally around this girl in witness protection to keep her safe. I’m down for some reverse harem-ness. I even like that you get some of the dark romance without them being totally awful to the girl (I’m assuming). I just don’t like the writing. I can’t 100% put my finger on it. I think it’s things like saying “I will” instead of I’ll or the strong favor of telling versus showing so far. It’s frustrating because I feel like this could be a super cool series, I just don’t think it ultimately will be.
I, of course, have zero room to talk having never written (or attempted) to write a book AND I haven’t read it in its entirety yet, so I’m being Judgey McJudgerson for sure. I just hope I can get over it enough to actually finish. Stay tuned.
