I read this on a high from Carrie Aarons Privileged, which I really enjoyed. In this story, Aarons tells the story of Blake who’s lost her family and chooses to live in isolation until her childhood love returns to their tiny town to take over the family business. We follow her journey as she learns if too much has happened for her to repair old hurts and recapture the love she so desperately wants.
I wanted to like this story, I really did. I just didn’t. Second Chance Romance goes like this: People fall in love, something pulls them apart, they come back together fighting the attraction, something else happens, they work through it and then they all live happily ever after. The problem I had here was that the “something else happens” step happened too early/didn’t happen at all. It left me waiting the entire book for the other shoe to drop. The entire book.
I love a twist on a classic… this just wasn’t it. It really felt more like a skipped step, and because of that I just couldn’t get into it. Sad face for me. If you’re looking to try out Carrie Aarons, Privileged was good, but I’d say this one is a hard pass from me.
